Clare’s research interests surround the ability of intact, degraded and rehabilitated ecosystems to deliver services to benefit human well-being. Specifically, in how the complexity and diversity of ecosystem components drives their capacity to deliver multiple ecosystem services simultaneously, and how combined anthropogenic and climate change pressures may alter these processes. She is currently working within the Mapping Ocean Wealth project, in which we are aiming to understand the historical, current and potential future value of coastal ecosystems in south eastern Australia, and to develop decision-making tools to inform coastal zone management to maximise blue carbon and other ecosystem services benefits. Clare is also involved in research focused on (1) relationships between mangrove functional composition and climate change mitigation and adaptation ecosystem services; (2) developing remote sensing techniques for broad-scale coastal ecosystem monitoring (i.e. mangroves) under climate change (sea level rise); (3) the potential for coastal Payments For Ecosystem Services (PES) schemes targeting multiple ecosystem services, and; (4) the role of mangrove ecosystems in supporting threatened terrestrial faunal populations.
